Disney California Adventure might have a reputation for thrill rides and big kid fun, but don’t let that fool you. It’s also full of incredible attractions for the younger crowd, making it a great companion (or even alternative) to Disneyland for families with little ones.
From colorful rides with no height requirement to character encounters, splash zones, and interactive shows, there’s no shortage of toddler- and preschooler-friendly magic here. And while there may be fewer kid-centric attractions compared to Disneyland, what DCA does offer is quality over quantity. Some of the rides on this list are what we consider all-time favorites.
Whether you’ve got a stroller-bound sidekick, an energetic preschooler, or a mix of both, these are the experiences that tend to bring the biggest smiles (and the fewest meltdowns).
Note: We’re skipping rides that aren’t suitable for toddlers or younger guests. If you’re looking for the overall best rides at DCA, head here instead.
And don’t forget: every kid is different. We’ve included notes in each description to help you make the best choices for your crew, but you know your kiddos best!
15. Golden Zephyr
This spinner attraction is a hidden gem for younger kiddos who want a little wind in their hair without the big thrills. Golden Zephyr lifts guests gently into the air for a smooth, gentle ride that offers fun views of Pixar Pier without any surprises. There’s no height requirement, and it’s a great starter attraction for those working up to more adventurous rides.
14. Jumpin Jellyfish (40”)
Think of this baby drop ride as a micro introduction to Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!, but no thrills and no fuss. Little ones will be lifted vertically a short distance before gently being bounced back down to the ground. Short, sweet, and a big favorite for little ones.
13. Pixar Pal A Round
The iconic Pixar Pal-A-Round can be a little intimidating from the ground, but the stationary (non-swinging!) gondolas offer a calm, enclosed ride that most young kids handle just fine. It’s a relaxing way to take in views of the whole park and point out landmarks from up high. Just a heads-up: if your little one has any fear of heights, you might want to skip this one.
12. Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind
Colorful, upbeat, and whimsical, this ride is preschooler heaven. A gentle spinner with no height requirement, Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind offers all fun and no fear, making it an excellent pick for younger kids. Inspired by the vibrant world of Riley’s emotions, this attraction keeps little ones engaged with bright visuals, cheerful music, and just the right amount of twirl.
11. Jessie’s Critter Carousel
A cartoonish twist on a traditional carousel, Jessie’s is the perfect pick for kids who love animals, the Wild West, or riding a purple armadillo (among other adorable options) in a big circle. It’s a sweet and simple ride perfectly suited to any downtime you might find yourself with, or saving it for when it’s all lit up after dark.
10. Redwood Creek Challenge Trail
Hear us out: this one might not be a ride in the traditional sense, but you and your kids will love the chance to explore (i.e., burn energy) and play at your own pace on a beautifully themed nature trail. Think rope bridges, rock walls, and slides – the perfect formula for staving off that midday mid-queue meltdown.
There’s no height requirement for most areas, but some of the more adventurous features (like the zip line) do have restrictions. Even if you skip those, it’s a fantastic place for kids to play and pretend.
9. Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree (32”)
Located in one of our favorite corners of the park, Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree lets you hop into your own mini tractor and swing around to a somewhat catchy hoedown-style playlist narrated by none other than Mater himself. It’s the kind of laugh-out-loud fun that’s perfect for Cars fans, preschoolers, and the parents who tag along with them. Whimsical and wobbly, this one’s always a hit with the younger crowd
8. Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters (32”)
Climb aboard your own rockin’ roadster and enjoy a ride that feels like a, well, slightly jerky “dance” across a trackless floor. More exciting than a carousel but gentle for first-time theme park riders, Luigi’s is a fun and adorable choice for young kids who love Cars or simply enjoy sitting inside one that moves by itself.
7. WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure
Interactive and exciting, especially for Spider-Man fans big and small, join Spidey in a mission to eradicate all kinds of Spider-Bots. A majority of the ride is situated in front of screens, and it’s fast-paced without being too thrilling. While it’s great for all ages, be warned: it can get a little arm-burny if you’re competitive (and we always are).
6. Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live!
While not technically a ride, this high-energy show is a must-do for fans of Mickey, Minnie, and all their Disney Junior pals. With singing, dancing, bubbles, and surprise character appearances, it’s a great way for little ones to get their wiggles out while enjoying familiar songs and faces from shows like Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. Bonus: it’s indoors and air-conditioned, which translates to the perfect midday break.
5. Turtle Talk with Crush
Another attraction perfect for young children and adults who enjoy jokes over the kids’ heads, join Crush from Finding Nemo in this often hilarious, interactive show run by Cast Members talented enough to make it an entertaining experience for all ages. Like, duuuuude.
4. Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue!
Based on the original Monsters, Inc. film, hop into a taxi cab and straight into the chaos (and charm) of Monstropolis on this slow-moving ride to rescue a certain troublesome toddler. It’s colorful, quirky, and packed with fun little details for fans of the movie and for young kids. And watch out – Roz at the end might just throw some unexpected shade your way.
3. The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure
Yes, we all love The Little Mermaid, so you know it made the list. Step inside your own clamshell and travel “under the sea” with Ariel and friends to visit the familiar and colorful scenes, engaging animatronics, and music from the film. Packed with Disney nostalgia, this attraction is perfect for princess-obsessed kiddos or those who originally watched The Little Mermaid on VHS. 🙋
2. Toy Story Midway Mania!
Exciting and engaging, this ride might bring out our competitive (or petty) side, and we aren’t mad about it.
Climb aboard your ride vehicle and get ready for an upper arm workout to compete against your partner in a wild and silly showdown featuring 4D, midway-style arcade games with all your Toy Story pals. It’s colorful, chaotic, and competitive in all the right ways. Just be sure to look out for those virtual pies (don’t worry, it’s part of the fun).
