Alright, the title’s a little misleading.
You may be more of a beginner to Disney World if you’re reading this post, so you should know that there are four total theme parks (for simplicity’s sake, we’re not including two water parks and other recreation spots).
And asking us to choose the “best” one feels kind of like asking us to pick a favorite kid. We can’t do it.
Truthfully, all four Disney World parks are incredible in their own way. Each park has its own vibe, standout attractions, and reasons people fall in love with it.
EPCOT? A food and drink paradise. Magic Kingdom? Iconic rides and pure nostalgia. Hollywood Studios? Home to some of the most thrilling attractions in all of Disney World. Animal Kingdom? Stunning, immersive, and low-key underrated.
So no, we’re not here to rank them or crown a “best.”
Instead, we’re going to walk you through what makes each park amazing, and then help you figure out which one (or ones!) makes the most sense for your trip.
Ordinarily, we do suggest that every Disney World trip includes a visit to each one of the parks at least once, if you can!
But, we get it; maybe you can’t hit all four parks, or maybe you prefer to make the most of limited time and fully soak in one or two parks. Maybe you’re trying to decide which park or two you’ll spend an extra day at.
Either way, we’ve got thoughts. Let’s break it down.
Magic Kingdom
If you’re looking for the “quintessential Disney” experience, this is it. Magic Kingdom is the most classic of the four parks, with the iconic Cinderella Castle and more attractions than any other park. Like, a lot more.
You could easily spend two full days here and still not do everything. And honestly, we usually recommend spending that time here if it’s your first visit.
This park has something for everyone. You’ve got big thrills like TRON and Space Mountain, nostalgic favorites like Pirates of the Caribbean and Haunted Mansion, and of course, the classics like Peter Pan’s Flight, Dumbo, the spinning teacups, and it’s a small world. It’s also packed with character meet-and-greets, parades, castle shows, and more snack carts than you can count. (Don’t head back to Ohio without getting a Dole Whip float!)
Travel Group: Perfect for kids or a multigenerational group. It’s what most people picture when they think of Disney World—and for good reason!
EPCOT
EPCOT is our favorite park as adults. Part futuristic science center, part world travel adventure, part food and drink paradise, this park makes us feel like we’re on an energetic classroom field trip. In the best way.
There are two main sections: World Celebration/Discovery/Nature (all about innovation, the environment, and exploration) and World Showcase (eleven countries beautifully themed around a lagoon).
Attractions-wise, EPCOT is super diverse. Ranging from the thrilling Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind (safely the most brilliant theme park ride we’ve ever encountered) to other greats like Soarin’, and laidback experiences like the Moana-themed walkthrough water exhibit or SeaBase Aquarium.
But a huge part of EPCOT’s appeal is the World Showcase experience. We’re sipping margaritas in Mexico, getting the kids shaved ice in Japan, and then listening to a live band in Canada—all within a few hours! No passport required.
Not to mention the seasonally rotating festivals, famous for making food and drink decisions around the park even tougher to narrow down (watch your wallets!).
Travel Group: If you’re traveling with adults, older kids, or just want to eat and drink your way around Disney solo-style, EPCOT is where it’s at. And yes, you can definitely handle more than just one day here.
Hollywood Studios
Aaaaand…action! If you’re looking for a more thrilling park, whether those thrills come from nearly 200-foot vertical drops or watching your kids battle it out with their new light sabers, Hollywood Studios is the place to be.
Home to some of Disney’s most action-packed rides, you’ve got everything from feeling like you’re on the set of a Star Wars movie (Rise of the Resistance) to jumping on a runaway train in a Mickey Mouse cartoon (Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway) to an inverted loop on a certain rockin’ rollercoaster (Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster) – see what we did there? Not to mention other toy-sized favorites like Slinky Dog Dash or Toy Story Mania!
In between rides, there’s also great entertainment to be had. Indiana Jones Stunt Show? An adventure classic for all ages. Frozen Sing-Along? Hilarity for the adults and characters for the kids. And if you’re staying into the evening, don’t even get us started on Fantasmic! It’s a true “don’t miss.” (Also, don’t judge us for getting a little teary-eyed when we hear the opening music.)
Just know that Hollywood Studios has the tendency to feel a little “go-go-go” compared to the other parks, and this has mainly to do with how many wildly popular headliners there are. So, it’s a good park to have a solid game plan or Lightning Lane Multi Pass!
Travel Group: Thrill-seekers, older kids, or groups looking forward to a dynamic, energetic day.
Animal Kingdom
Last but certainly not least, Animal Kingdom doesn’t always get the same hype as the other parks, but that is totally lost on us. With incredible thematic details, immersive lands, and beautiful trails set against a lush background, it’s very “Disney park meets your favorite nature documentary.” And it’s one of our favorites.
Bringing visitors everywhere from safaris to swirling rapids to the highest peaks of Mount Everest, the attractions offered at Animal Kingdom have a little something for everyone. While the rides may be fewer in number, the park is home to some truly amazing headliners, including Expedition Everest (a coaster lover’s coaster) and Flight of Passage in Pandora (both of which top the list as one of Disney World’s best attractions).
But the best part of Animal Kingdom? To us, it’s the relaxed pace that you don’t really get at any of the other parks. It’s easy to grab a coffee and walk down the trails, catch live entertainment, stop and see a Broadway-caliber show, or hop on a ride without too much fuss.
Travel Group: Perfect for families, animal lovers, or anyone who appreciates a slower pace with a little adventure mixed in.
